Central Sri Lanka is home to the 2,243 m (7,359 ft) tall conical mountain known as Adam's Peak. It is famous for the Sri Pada, or "holy footprint," which is a 1.8 m (5 ft 11 in) rock formation at the peak and is believed by Buddhist tradition to be the footprint of the Buddha. In the village of Nallathanniya in central Sri Lanka, the Adam's Peak walk starts. The months of December through May are ideal for the journey.
